BART Phase II Status Update

Five Wounds Urban Village Posted on February 2, 2017 by vancleefApril 23, 2017

This is a summary of the current state of the BART Phase II  project.  The Draft SEIS/SEIR has been released and the public review and comment period will end Feb. 20, 3017.

Silicon Valley Business Journal

January 23, 2017, the Silicon Valley Business Journal published a good overview of the current state of the BART Phase II  project.

Are you ready for a subway? Digging for BART begins in two years

The bottom-line is simple.  With the passage of Proposition B in November, VTA now feels it has sufficient funding to move forward with designing the system.  However, they still need to apply for a federal grant to complete their funding requirements.

The 6-mile Phase II BART Extension would begin at the end of the current Phase I Project in Berryessa, east of U.S. Highway 101 and south of Mabury Road.   It would include an approximately 5-mile long tunnel, or subway, through downtown San Jose.  Four stations are under consideration:  a 28th Street Station, a Downtown San Jose Station, a Diridon Station, and a Santa Clara Station. The BART Extension would take approximately 8 years for design, construction, testing, and start-up activities.  Depending upon funding availability, initial revenue service on the BART Extension is now targeted to begin in late 2025/2026.

BART Silicon Valley Phase II Extension Project Draft SEIS/SEIR

The Federal Transit Administration (FTA) and the Santa Clara Valley Transportation Authority (VTA) are releasing the Draft Supplemental Environmental Impact Statement/Subsequent Environmental Impact Report (SEIS/SEIR) for public review and comments for the proposed construction of the BART Silicon Valley Phase II Extension Project, an approximately 6-mile extension of the Bay Area Rapid Transit (BART) system from the Berryessa BART Station (under construction) in San Jose to the City of Santa Clara.

Attached is a document from VTA that will help you find the areas of interest.
